This past weekend we spent some time with my in-laws to celebrate our nephew’s 4th birthday. It was the first time since they officially became my family that everyone was together — and though I’m sure no one consciously did anything different, I actually felt like I truly belonged for the first time. Up until now, I was “the girlfriend” or “the fiance,” and though the latter is more permanent, neither is is forever commitment. There is always that uncertainty that accompanies either relationship status — both for the couple and the families of each individual. Marriage, the way it was truly designed, says I’m in this for the long run and you [significant other’s family] are stuck with me legally and physically!
I love my family. We’ve always been a close knit group, some call us unique, but I think my parents just knew how to do family the right way. They have welcomed Jonathan as their son-in-law/brother-in-law with open loving arms and for that I will always be appreciative. My new family is the same way to some degree. They are a close knit group, they have their own set of uniqueness, and they’ve welcomed me to their group. I couldn’t have asked for a better set of families to grow our marriage and future family in.
Anyway, our weekend with the in-laws was a blast! Check out some of the pictures!
